MY QUEST TO SAVE FACEBOOK…I AM SERIOUS!

I have been following debates on Facebook and about their failures their inability to be profitable and all that while some people have their suggestion on how Facebook can make  money. I have always thought that Facebook knew what it was doing and was only bidding their time. Events changed that thought

  1. The redesign of Facebook: Facebook’s redesign to have the ‘real-time’ nature of twitter gave credence to Facebook’s insecurity about the popularity of Twitter and also their attempt to buy twitter
  2. The report that Facebook wants to make money selling Vanity urls. e.g http://facebook.com/Oo
  3. TechCrunch story about Facebook new business model being to sell virtual gifts! That actually was the last straw. Since Arrington rarely get his stories wrong (ass kissing here), I took the tale with a hefty spoon of salt.

Consequently, because I love Facebook, I have decided to write publicly my own ideas of how Facebook can redeem itself and become profitable company to be taken seriously.

Oo goes to Old Trafford…VIP style!

How do you explain a trip to heaven? Well, that is the task set before me so expect it to be a bit mumbled up.

It all started with an innocent sounding (my normal ringtone)  call from Chuka on Tue  Treble Suiteduring the match between Arsenal and Liverpool. He told me that he won a prize sponsored by Audi and that he had a VIP package  to watch the match between Tottenham and United on the up coming Saturday and his predicament was choosing who to go with.  Of course i did not believe him! Who gets such an offering on the first visit to the Theatre of Dreams let alone me barely 6 months in the UK. After much pondering (2 sec) I called back, and  I was on the phone for an hour trying to convince him on why I should be the chosen one.

ICONS Conference 2009- A wonderful experience!

I really looked forward to attending the conference with my Nigerian students. The thought of a weekend far away from this our exciting Coventry with my people reminded me of class trips back home. There was always only one outcome, FUN!!

As the postgrad rep and a point man for ICONS in Warwick, I excitedly started preparing and surprisingly found out it was much cheaper to rent a 17 seater van for a whole weekend (10 pounds per head excl. fuel). I was confident in my preparation because when I was nominated as postgradrep, I was guaranteed the support of everyone. Sadly, the short story is that people wanted to know if I would guarantee them getting a job there. Of course, I refused to tie myself to such a deal (Do I own UBA, or Shell? Is my surname FGN?). On the day before the trip, 5 of the 11 people that I had assuring me dropped out, throwing 5 spanners in the works. It was no longer possible to do a rental. The only other option was a 41 pound return train journey. I was left with myself and Ayo Obi T to represent Warwick.

Running Away: My Retreat Diary.

Since I have been going through some tough times in my life and was lagging in the tasks I set forth for myself, I decided to take time out to re evaluate my life. I have always known that I have a lot of potential but potential must be converted to kinetic energy for it to be useful (Akpeks thanks for that yarn). I have not taken my school work as seriously as I should and I am very shamefully lagging in my project I thought I would have almost completed by now amongst many plans and projects occupying my little mind. Consequently, I decided to go on a retreat and I searched for places until I settled for Hartley Woods (they were kind enough to give me a discount).

Day One (15th April)

Being the Capricorn that I am, I sought to find the most economical way to get to Uttoxter (UTT). It was suppose to be cheaper by almost 30% if I connected through Wolverhampton that going to Uttoxter from Coventry directly. Well, the saying penny wise pound foolish (did using the actual currency play a role?) could not have been more on point.

First of all my ticket from Wolves to UTT turned out to be a one day return ticket instead of an open return as I tried to sort it out (by begging) I missed the train I was to take and that resulted in an extension of my journey by at least one hour. Continue reading
